Hello and ni hao maaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

It had been almost 4 months since my first ever trip abroad alone (yes, first time and alone but I am like… 20???) to China and that means I had procrastinated for 4 months. WOW. Not suprising really.

So, it is true that I spent less than RM1,200 in Beijing. I am not someone who is good with money but somehow I manage…

At the end of this blog post, I will include the itinerary and budget for this trip. Stay tuned.

My trip took place from 3 September to 9 September, approximately 7 days. I had visited a few famous places in Beijing and we had to let go the Ming Tomb because we ran out of time (nah, because of period pain and honestly that place is so far and we need to change many train stations before we could go and that’s… tiring when you have period pain. )

I know the dates are not confirmed yet and it is risky but boiii if you can cut down on airplane ticket I assure you you could really save on your budget. Usually twitter will be so loud during the sales time, join Buddies Malaysia group or just sign up for Air Asia since they will let you buy the ticket a day earlier before it is opened for the non-member. Free je kot daftar tu, daftar la Big Point ye y’all.

I spent RM502 for return ticket KUL-PEK, this included in-flight meals and the charge ( I don’t remember what charge but RM15 because I couldn’t pay using CIMB Click at that time). My mom paid for the luggage 10KG RM90+ when I was in Beijing because I didn’t have any money left, also ended up my bag was only 8KG. #betrayed

YES, this has to be included because it could save you loads of money if you plan beforehand. My cousin went to China a few days after I went. His flight is on 5th September and he only realised that to visit China you need to register for a visa and that took a few days (depends) a day before. CRAZY. He changed the date and got his visa done but that screamed money since he needed to pay for the date change as well as instant visa (RM300+) instead of normal visa (RM108). I got mine done at Chinese Embassy in Butterworth, Penang.

You can fill in the form online and have it printed or just fill in there. But I would suggest you to fill in the form online. Please be careful especially when you are filling in your name. There is always an issue with our name because of the binti/bin. Your first name is KHADIJAH and your second name is BINTI MUHAMMAD. Do not omit the ‘binti/bin’ to be safe and sound. Guys, this is the main reason why I could spend only approximately RM600 during my stay in China. I stayed over at my friend’s dorm. We mostly travelled using subway and her electric motorcycle. And tell you what, everyone rides bicycle here. I was shooked when I found out the Alibaba group is the owner of all the yellow bicycles you see all around Beijing. I am a huge fan of Jack Ma mannn.

subway card ( you can top up, it is the same as RapidKL card, TouchNGo )

thanks Gee bawak aku merata hehe

spacious, looks like I am in Korea, or Japan, or Taiwan. I think it is because the landscape is amost the same.

my friend’s dorm, everyone has electric motorcycle

For accomodation, there are many youth hostel, hotel and motel in Beijing. Since I was travelling alone, my parents would not allow me to stay over a hotel in a foreign country alone. Hence, I looked up for people online and found Gee who is studying in Beijing Cultural University which turned out to be my home for 7 days.

I saved a lot of money by crashing her dorm. If you can find someone’s place to crash over to, please do so. If you have friends studying in China , there are a lot of Malaysian students there, please go there before  they ( and you)  finish studies.

I highkey hope this would be my dorm in Malaysia but who I am kidding…. :’) #syukurselalu

I know you have heard of Chinese government bad treatment towards muslims in Xinjiang. Well it is true, since China is a communist country. But afraid not, there are a lot of halal food available here. Since Gee studies in international university and stays in international dorm, there are loads of halal restaurants around to cater the needs of muslim students. In BCLU, there are many students from India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and European countries. Gee’s neighbours are Koreans, they always make noise at night…. #pain

Get ready for food porn!!!!

la mian, the love of my life

The price of food in Beijing is not as expensive as I expect it would be. It normally ranges from 12¥ and the most expensive I had eaten was 35¥ at a Korean restaurant. ( All to satisfy Gee’s craving hehe).

If you have never been abroad because your family is not rich enough, and now you have money to do so but no one to accompany you, just go, just go. If you are brave enough you can travel alone, if you are not, find someone from the same country as you are and go with them. Brainstorm how to make your dreams come true. Good luck guys!

ZAIJIAN BEIJING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am editing the Beijing vlog into a 15minutes long one with voiceover and it is draining me….. Salute to all video editors out there.

But nevermind,at least I could relate to Why A Students Work For C Students..hehe

I wrote a journal documenting my SPM journey :’)

A few days ago,(or about a week or so,I don’t remember,so forgive my memory) a junior of mine asked me to write about study tips.Hmm,this is quite hard because I am not the most studious person you would have ever met.I was that student who slept during classes (but not always la,nanti tak berkat) and I was also that lazy girl who always procrastinated like a bawse.

However, since she asked,so I thought to myself ; WHY NOT? Maybe my writing today can benefit some of us,in sha Allah.

I was above average student during elementary school.Definitely not the brightest 😦 but I always got the presents during Majlis Anugerah Cemerlang.I used to get the highest marks in 5 subjects when I was 9 haha.Good ol’ memory.I got 5A for UPSR and 9A for PMR.

So fast forward to upper secondary school, there was me who was extremely lazy and demotivated .Before anyone assumed anything.I was in liberal arts – aliran sastera perakaunan.I was definitely not a teacher’s pet or close to any teachers. No one says I am super smart or something,in fact no one expected me to excel in SPM.My school has a lot of smart students who usually are in science stream so students who took liberal arts are not that pandai la.To them la.Haha.I couldn’t feel sorrier okay.

I got into aliran perakaunan because my dad wanted me to be like him,and my mom didn’t think I was that interested in science. To be honest,I wasn’t interested in anything except for history, languages and subjects that would not bring me much money for a living T_T but nah, that’s okay.If anyone says you are stupid just because you are not studying in science stream, don’t give a damn okay.We all have our own preferences, don’t follow people.I don’t have any friend when I first got into form 4 because all my friends were in science stream but heyy then I have more friends?

1) Respect teachers and knowledge

Teachers are our source of knowledge, without their selfless help and patience we might not as smart as we are now.I know sometimes teachers can be such a pain, but however sucks it is we must respect them.I know students who argue that respect has to be earned and yadda yadda but at the end of the day it is their blessing that we seek.Remember how crowded is teacher’s room the day before examination haha.

I have my very personal share with teacher.During 2014 mid-term exams I was writing a BM essay. All of sudden I wanted to change my essay,so I tore the paper and wrote a new one.I couldn’t finished it on time,so I begged for the invigilator to wait for another 5 minutes. But you know, females sometimes can be so rigid.Usually we can get away with extra 5 minutes because this is not a big exam but apparently this teacher didn’t think that way.

Oh great.

She left me and said “nanti kamu hantar sendiri dekat cikgu kamu, saya taknak tunggu,ni dah langgar peraturan”.I was like..yeah whatever and continued writing furiously. After 10 minutes I was walking down the hall to the teacher’s room to pass my paper. My BM teacher was talking to an ustazah who taught me usul fiqh.

“Cikgu,ni paper saya, tadi saya tak sempat siap jadi saya ambil extra time”

My BM teacher later told me that the invigilator had already called her and that I abused the rules by not submitting my exam paper and she couldn’t accept my paper.I was doomed closed to getting an F for BM.

I was shaking with anger,I was mad at  the invigilator for not giving me that extra 5 minutes. In common cases, usually invigilators will put up but not with this one.My pure bad luck.Had the thing happened only between two person,I wouldn’t have to bear with my parents’ anguish on my D grade for Bahasa Melayu.

The invigilator never taught me but she is one of my teachers, technically. As an immatured student,I have every right to hate her but I chose not to.It is because I believe that I must respect  her and I never told anyone about this incident except to my mom.Usually female students will pull faces whenever they meet their not-so-favourite-teachers and even take another route if she is about to meet the teacher, but not me.I kind of forced myself to humbly smile and give salam to her.It was quite hard, but it was my own mistake and she just did her job.Anyway  I cried for two consecutive two days because I didn’t get an A.Ugh,I hate my old-self now haha.

Not only that,I also learnt a lesson – HAND YOUR WORK ON TIME!

2. You must set yourself on fire

One of the reasons why I work freaking hard for SPM is to prove to the mouths that were saying bad things about me.See,I wasn’t the nicest person ever especially during secondary school. There was this time, after eating dinner I went to form 5 study room to chillax. My friends were discussing names of people they were targeting to get 9AS and above.(In my school for SPM only 9A’s above students get student awards ).

To my dismay,my name wasn’t in the list.I asked them why no one mentioned my name? They just shrugged their shoulders and one of them said to me right in the eyes “because no way you could make it.”

That really fueled my desire to get straight As.Besides other reasons such as to make my parents proud of me,money, scholarships and of course because Islam says you have to be the best in whatever you do.

You just need to find reasons that set the fire in you.

Oh,and if you find people talking about you, please remember this quote.

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. ”

Eleanor Roosevelt

3. Disciplines

I only started studying after mid-term exams, around June 2014 (four months prior to SPM – don’t do this unless you want to feel tortured!).I think you guys can imagine the pressure, while studying I kept cursing myself for geniusly procrastinating my studies. If only and only if I started studying when I was in form 4,I would not suffer like this.

But one can only regret.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.I was  terrified at the thought of not doing well for SPM,so I searched high and low for tips. There were  lots of tips on internet but I couldn’t relate so I contacted a senior via FB.He then shared with me what he did.

For four months,I studied like hell.I was very diciplined,I wouldn’t sleep if I had not finished my revision.I woke up at 4.30AM every morning.Even the fact that my bilik was berhantu where my adik bilik said she saw me studying on the floor when the truth was I was sleeping soundly on my bunk – didn’t bother me.I woke up early, went to the toilet (even made friends with the guard because she had to open the stairs gate so early for me hehe) and made myself a cup of honey water, pray and revise.

Hantu or not,I needed to revise or I would get 6As or less.Oh horror!

I also stayed late after school, studying.Because I know if I go back to hostel I would sleep the whole evening and waste my time by not studying. For last-minute work, every second is valuable.

I always asked teachers to teach me,something I was lazy to do before  if I weren’t interested in that subject. This is a bad habit because we want to get all As.Like it or hate it,I need to study. As an annoying friend,I also pestered  and bugged my smart-ass friends and successfully made them teach me topic I didn’t understand.

Find study techniques which work the best for you.As for me I prefer to study from textbooks instead of reference books.I also like group discussion which I would suggest you to do it with friends who aren’t so close so the study group won’t turn into chit chat group.I like quiet surrounding which was why I woke up at 4.30AM.When I was desperate and anxiously thinking I needed to put more effort,I woke up as early as 3AM.Haha,sorry can’t help myself,I was freaking desperate.

4. Ibadah

Everyone is alim when exams draw near,I was not excluded!!hahaha!!!

Anyway, jokes aside ; the senior whom I consulted shared his secret. He never fail to do tahajjud.Like whatever happens,he will make sure he performs tahajjud or he will feel demotivated to study for the rest of the day.

Tahajjud is good for our mental and productivity – you can google the benefit of early morning meditation. Our prayers can be categorised as meditation too.

I made it a must to read yassin everyday (you know we gotta have amalan that we stick to) ,and of course since I was in religious school – all my classmates aggreed to recite yassin together every morning.I also tried to perform dhuha every day. This is easy as my class is near to the musolla, just a minute by walking!

That musolla was my lepak place :’) I was rebel liddat

5. Do good to everyone

Just be nice,we never know if our success come from other people’s prayers.

Oh,I never believed in SPOT question, and I attempted on many SPM clone questions – I didn’t do past years.I was lucky because they started to implement KBAT in SPM 2014.Usually last-minute students do lots of past years and got As just because they had answered the same question before.Lucky me I emphasized on understanding each chapter and did SPM clone question sets.

MILLION THANKS TO ALL WHO HELP ME THROUGH SPM 2014 (It has been 2 years ;’)  )

All the best to whoever reads this!Bittaufiq wannajah in sha Allah.

the day SPM result was announced,17th March 2015,I hope that day was not my last time meeting these awesome people.

Cara Aku Kuasai Bahasa Inggeris

Dah lepas 1/3 Ramadan, bagaimana dengan ibadah kalian?Harap-harap Ramadan kali ini membawa seribu satu makna buat kita semua,in sha Allah.

Aku terfikir nak tulis entri ni,lepas moreh tadi.

Tapi nak cakap tu,jangan harap.Menggeletar baqhang.Pernah tu time bercuti dekat Batu Feringghi lepastu aku dan adik aku naik lif dengan mat saleh sorang ni.Kebetulan kami sama tingkat bilik hotel, dia suruh aku tekan button lift lepastu aku tunjuk 8.Bukan aku taktau lapan tu eight dalam Bahasa Inggeris tapi aku macam “Nak cakap tingkat lapan cemana eh?” Waktu tu aku darjah 2.

Masa darjah 1,aku nak masuk pertandingan bercerita tapi aku tak reti baca dengan lancar Bahasa Inggeris, macam sangkut-sangkut.Waktu saringan, aku bawa buku cerita lepastu bila cikgu suruh baca aku terkebil-kebil.Lepastu cikgu tanya, “Kamu reti baca tak?” aku teleng.Cikgu suruh balik kelas.Sedih bila ingat balik…

buku ni,tapi tajuk Cinderella

Bukan mak aku tak ajar, berlambak buku Bahasa Inggeris kat rumah tapi aku ni pemalas.Asyik nak keluar main aci ligan saja petang-petang.Tak pun main racing basikal, time tu rasa gangster habis :’)  Almaklumlah dekat kawasan perumahan tu ramai budak kecik boleh dibuat kawan.

sampai kesudah aku tak baca habis Peter & Jane tu,Read Easy pun sama.last-last aku baca sendiri bila dah teringin nak kuasai Bahasa Inggeris.

Banyak je moment yang buatkan aku kerdil sangat sebab Bahasa Inggeris aku cikai.Aku pandai teori, contohnya cara tukar plural singular, preposition tapi memang lemah bila nak cakap, atau buat ayat panjang.

Darjah 3,kena masuk story telling (peringkat daerah je pun) sebab ganti kawan aku,Huda.Aku ni sejak kecik level of confident tinggi.Memang jenis yang kurang pemalu so aku redah.Banyak gila sebutan aku salah tapi cikgu aku perbetulkan, mak aku pun perbetulkan.Bukan aku faham sangat pun apa aku dok cerita sambil buat gaya loncat sana loncat sini.

Darjah 4,aku dah galak kekeke dah start belajar tengok drama online.Walaupun waktu tu internet masih Dial-Up aku sanggup bersabar nak tunggu drama loading.Tengok dekat mysoju, sapa tak kenal mysoju tak cukup otai lagi okay dalam drama ni haha.Jadi, waktu tu la aku macam cuba nak belajar sikit-sikit Bahasa Inggeris.Bukannya apa, takda niat mulia pun, cuma nak faham apa yang Matsumoto Jun cakap je.

hawt tau dulu Hana Yori Dango

Sepupu aku terer Bahasa Inggeris, kalau main barbie mesti ada sorang jadi orang gaji sorang jadi orang kaya.Barbie aku la jadi orang gaji sebab tak pandai speaking.Lepastu pengaruh hedonisme mesti barbie ada pertandingan menyanyi.Sepupu aku semua pakat nyanyi lagu English.Aku memang bukan jenis dengar lagu, aku layan k-pop mana layan mat saleh jadi aku nyanyi lagu Twinkle Twinkle Little Star selalu.

Akhir tahun 2008 baru aku mula nak pastikan diri aku kuasai Bahasa Inggeris.Sebab Ujian Penilaian Tahun Lima aku dapat 4A1B ,B Bahasa Inggeris, markah 78.Huwaaa lagi 2 nak A.Aku frust gila sebab semua budak-budak Anugerah Cemerlang dapat join rombongan sekolah pergi mandi kat Lost World Tambun.Dah la yang rombongan tahun sebelum aku tak boleh pergi sebab kena demam campak T__T

Walaupun langit tak selalunya cerah, mentari tetap menampakkan sinar.Tetiba aku rajin baqhang nak kuasai Bahasa Inggeris. Aku kan tinggal kat hulu, cakap nama tempat aku menetap ni mesti hang taktau punya.Orang suka buat lawak bangang yang semua tinggal disini tuli-tuli belaka.Acewah, terbakau tak?

1. Aku baca kamus

Waktu tu tak banyak dosa lagi, jadi ingatan memang alhamdulillah kuat.Sekali baca, scan, masuk terus dalam jiwa raga.Hari-hari aku selak kamus, sampai lunyai kamus Oxford aku tu.Kesayangan okay, kamus tu aku guna lagi sampai sekarang.

2. Aku banyak baca buku Bahasa Inggeris

Rumah aku banyak je National Geographic,Discovery,Health Today,Readers’ Digest,Time tapi wa tak pernah berminat nak baca.Mak ayah aku ja consumed depa hari-hari.Untuk anak-anak,mak aku langgan Young Scientists,Tunas Sains,Adik Digital dan Disney setiap bulan.Jadi aku banyak baca majalah budak-budak sebagai permulaan.

Masuk darjah 6,macam Bahasa Inggeris aku improved banyak gila.

Dalam majalah Disney selalu ada idioms ,aku hafal yang tu la.Contohnya a blue bird told me ,once in a blue moon dan sebagainya.

4. Tengok series dalam Bahasa Inggeris

Time ni aku layan ANTM hahahahha sapa tak layan weh,dia punya riuh bodoh tu lawak gila.So aku suka buat lawak ngan kakak aku So you wanna be on top?

Sambil tengok tu,otak aku pick up cara dia sebut perkataan, dan aku cuba cakap balik cuma jangan tanya kenapa pelat aku takda gaya American mahupun British.Iolls rendah diri >_<

Bila dah tengok ni,aku ada confidence nak bertutur dalam Bahasa Inggeris diluar pentas Story Telling.Sebab keluarga aku bukan english-speaking.Semua bantai cakap Kedah ja,pastu bila balik Sik cakap lorat Sik orang was-was aku ni minah kelate ko?

Pelan pelan aku kutip keyakinan aku,nak cakap depan orang ramai dalam bahasa yang hang tak selalu tutur bukan satu perkara yang mudah.

5. Aku mula menulis

Tahu tak kenapa penulisan bahasa Inggeris hang tak bagus?Sebab hang praktikkan/menulis waktu peperiksaan saja.

Bajet kan macam depa tu terer sangat bahasa Inggeris.

Lepastu aku melebarkan sayap mula komen dekat Youtube bawah video kpop, waktu tu mashaAllah jangan cakaplah grammar semua kelaut.

6. Aku suka bertanya

Aku memang suka tanya soalan, sampai sekarang pun.Pergi sekolah memandu cikgu aku mengamuk kat aku sebab aku tanya kenapa kena tekan klac haha.

Contoh buku kisah para nabi, buku jin, perbandingan agama, sejarah Melayu, sejarah Islam tapi kemudiannya mempunyai hobi aneh membaca ensiklopedia.Aku obsessed nak tahu segala-galanya.

Sejam aku tulis tahuu.Semoga bermanfaat!Believe in yourself and you can do it!
